First Friday is always keen to invite speakers who have a specific business story to tell, or who help play a role in our local community.
On May 5th, we are lucky enough to have a speaker who ticks both boxes.
Nigel Atkinson is a businessman with considerable experience and amongst other roles, is also the Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Hampshire.
Nigel's talk will feature on the Office and Role of Lord Lieutenant and the Lieutenancy
By way of background, Nigel is currently Chairman of Centurion Safety Products Limited, a leading manufacturer of head and respiratory protection equipment; a Non-Executive Director with the independent London family brewer, Fuller Smith & Turner plc; and Non-Exec Chairman of Premier Pub Estates Ltd.
Prior to that he was Chief Executive of the family brewer, George Gale & Co Ltd, a position he held for 15 years until its sale in December 2005.
He has until recently held NED positions with GCap Media plc (formally Capital Radio plc), Clan South Ltd (Family wine wholesaler), and The South East Hampshire Enterprise Agencies.
With his experience of running a highly successful family business he has also joined The International Centre for Families in Business as a consultant.
This combined experience, coupled with both public and private sector service as a non-executive director, has given him the ability to bring a mix of strong support and skills to an executive team.
Nigel is a Trustee of HMS Warrior 1860, Honorary Colonel of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Cadet Force and Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Hampshire.
Nigel has been married to Christine for 21 years and they have one daughter who is studying Geology at Oxford.
